Professor Von Uhl

160 Convent Ave, New York, NY 10031

Dear Ms. von Uhl

My name is Omar Ramirez, and I am a civil engineering student at the City College of New York. I am in my first year, but I am eager to jump into the field and get to work. This job opportunity not only allows me to sharpen my skills and apply what I’ve learned to the real world, but it also provides me with the proper tools and resources I need in order to grow and reach my fullest potential. I’m extremely passionate and intentional in everything that I do, and engineering allows me to do what I love and still be able to help people through creating the proper infrastructure that communities need to thrive. Growing up ive always been curious about the things around me, which has led me to always look beyond what’s on paper and formulate my own ideas. This is apparent through my work and the way I go about problem-solving.

Through my educational background, projects, and experience, I have built a solid foundation of my engineering principles, such as statics, materials, and structural analysis. I am well-versed in a variety of software used within the civil engineering world. Although I have been able to create a proper technical foundation, I am still trying to develop my overall process and approach when it comes to engineering. Through mentorships and job opportunities, I am confident I’ll be able to properly grow.

As a creative and forward-thinking individual Ive developed an abstract approach when it comes to engineering. To me, engineering is a form of  structured discipline that allows for creativity withing inovation. The way we approach engineering is a  process that we can apply to anything; we must use that creative, structural discipline and apply it to our problem-solving. Through the use of these methodologies, I can create and put out work that not only helps people efficiently and effectively but also allows us to try to find new ways of innovating and adding to a space that often feels two-dimensional at times.

My goals within my career directly align with my own personal goals. I want to continue to grow and learn, and become someone who is able to bring a new lens and perspective into the workplace. I want to learn things that aren’t only applicable to the workplace but also skills and knowledge that I can apply ot the any future endeavors or goals within my life.

Kind Regards,

Omar Ramirez
